Tableware and Flatware for Sasaki

2001

CORINTH CHINA.

The Robert A. M. Stern Collection for Sasaki reinterprets motifs from ancient times in fresh modern ways. Designs for glassware and flatware put an architectural spin on tabletop objects. Standard patterns of masonry coursing render drinking glasses and serving bowls into crystalline buildings; abstracted campanile transform a place setting of flatware into a towered Tuscan townscape. A Greek key pattern abstracted into a simple geometric bas relief enlivens the rims of dishes and mugs and the handles of flatware.
